Buckeyes Split Pair With Muffins

Saturday, April 21 – The Cincinnati Buckeyes traveled the road northeast to Columbus, OH, to take on the Muffins of Ohio Village, located in the Ohio Historical Center. The two nines met under pleasant skies, especially considering the weather of the previous weekend.  The two teams also used an experimental new base ball, one that seemed to be harder and heavier than the normal sphere used by the Muffins.  That ball sure got struck around this day!

Game one featured a lot of fine hitting, especially by the home team early on.  Cincinnati found itself down 9-0 after just two innings of play, but outscored the Muffins the rest of the way, thanks in part to an 8-run sixth inning.  Unfortunately, the Buckeyes ran out of time to complete the comeback, dropping their first game of this short season.  Buckeyes 16, Muffins 19

The hard hits continued into the second match despite a reduction in personnel on both sides, with the ball being struck into the deepest recesses of the Meadow and even clear out of the park with some regularity.  Some hard plays produced some bumps, bruises and one permanently bent pinky finger, but the Buckeyes managed to come out on top in this one.   Buckeyes 15, Muffins 10

Both games were not only exciting to watch, but a lot of fun to play.  And much of it was recounted as the two teams shared a meal at the hotel garden adjacent.  Huzzah to the Muffins on another fun afternoon of base ball in the Meadow!
